Is the "id" in psychology bad?
I have heard that the id is from our beginning instincts as animals and that it is now the primary cause to suffering on earth. Just wondering what purpose the id serves besides basic survival and if it is possible for the id to die completely leaving us to reason only with superego. The thought sounds boring since the id is what I guess inspires us to learn, but just wondering. Haven’t looked too hard but have searched and couldn’t find any opinions on the id being good/bad or both as a balance system. All opinions are greatly appreciated.

The reason we have the "id" is because we can’t find other means to satisfy our desires, which is why the "ego" comes into play (it finds ways to rationalise with the id). It’s completely natural and it’s not harmful or bad. Infants have the id, and that’s why they’re harder to control and reason with.

We need the id so that the ego forms, and later on the superego forms too.

Id is the natural instants to get what we want when we want it, it is one of the first developed before the ego or the superego. A good metaphor of how the id works is that lets say your walking by a bakery and smell bread baking. Your id tells you to go inside and get some, now! Then your ego comes in and reasons with you by saying things like "No you just ate lunch" or "No your on a diet". Then your superego makes you feel bad if you give into the id. The end.
