Baader Meinhof Complex, The (2008)

IMDB rating: 7.40

Plot: Germany in the 1970s: Murderous bomb attacks, the threat of terrorism and the fear of the enemy inside are rocking the very foundations of the yet fragile German democracy. The radicalised children of the Nazi generation lead by Andreas Baader, Ulrike Meinhof and Gudrun Ensslin are fighting a violent war against what they perceive as the new face of fascism: American imperialism supported by the German establishment, many of whom have a Nazi past. Their aim is to create a more human society but by employing inhuman means they not only spread terror and bloodshed, they also lose their own humanity. The man who understands them is also their hunter: the head of the German police force Horst Herold. And while he succeeds in his relentless pursuit of the young terrorists, he knows he’s only dealing with the tip of the iceberg.

Lookout, The (2007)

IMDB rating: 7.40

Plot: An admired high school hockey player (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) with a bright future foolishly takes a drive in the night with his girl friend and two other friends with his headlights off with devastating results. The former athlete is left with a brain injury that prevents him from remembering many things for extended periods of time. To compensate, he keeps notes in a small notebook to aid him in remembering what he is to do. He also lives with a blind friend (Jeff Daniels) who aids him. Obviously, with the mental incapacitation, he is unable to have meaningful work. Thus he works as a night cleaning man in a bank. It is there he comes under the scrutiny of a gang planning to rob the bank. The leader (Matthew Goode) befriends him and gets him involved with a young woman (Isla Fisher) who further reels him in. After they get close and after reeling him in with his own failures, the bank plan unfolds. Confused but wanting to escape his current existence, he initially goes along with the scheme. After realizing he is being used, he attempts to stop the robbery, which of course immediately goes awry. Bruce McGill and Alberta Watson also co-star as the young man’s parents, who still search for the person that was there before the tragic crash.

How to handle a job interview?
I am currently on the lookout for a job as I have just completed my diploma studies. I will be 27 years old this year, and basically I have about 4 years of work experience.

I have had difficulties securing jobs since I left my last job in October 2008, which was one of the main reasons why I went on to take up a diploma. Currently, having just started looking for jobs again, I am beginning to worry if my being too quiet/introverted plays a part in my failure to impress my interviewers.

I suppose I could say I’ve been rather passive during interviews, as I seldom seem to take the initiative to be more interactive (eg. show enthusiasm in the job, company, position, etc). Sometimes when the interviewer asks me if I have any questions for them, I usually end up feeling a little stumped as to what to ask and I feel like I want to ask something (to show my interest) but my mind just to have gone blank. Would this mean that I was purely unprepared for the interview?

My character has always been a rather passive, shy, quiet type and socially, I am one who seldom initiates especially when it comes to new people. I am also starting to wonder if I have a lack of confidence. And I feel that all these are causing me to lose out and end up not getting further shortlisted or selected.

What are the typical questions I should/can ask during an interview in order to show the interviewer that I am genuinely interested in the position?

How can I boost my confidence and be more interactive and enthusiastic without thinking to myself "this isn’t me"? Or do I really have to "put on an act" just for the sake of impressing the interviewer by being who I’m not (in a sense)?

Fantasia/2000
Fantasia/2000 (1999)

IMDB rating: 7.20

Plot: In this update of Disney’s masterpiece film mixture of animation and music, new interpretations of great works of music are presented. It begins with an abstract battle of light and darkness set to the music of Beethoveen’s Fifth Symphony. Then we see the adventures of a Humpback Whale calf and his pod set to “The Pines of Rome.” Next is the humourous story of several lives in 1930’s New York City, scored with “Rhapsody in Blue.” Following is a musical telling of the fairy tale, “The Steadfast Tin Soldier” set to Dmitri Shostakovich’s Piano Concerto No. 2. Then a goofy Flamingo causes havoc in his flock with his yo-yo to the tune of the finale of “Carnival of the Animals.” This is followed by the classic sequence from the original film, “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice” starring Mickey Mouse and followed by “Pomp and Circumstance” starring Donald Duck as a harried assistant to Noah on his Ark. Finally, we see the awesome tale of the life, death and renewal of a forest in a sequence featuring the composition, “The Firebird.”

Do you think "Fantasia 2000" will ever be re-released in IMAX or regular theaters?
I never got to see it in a theater, but I think it was only released in IMAX when it came out. It would be amazing to see it in an IMAX theater since I never got to see it in an IMAX theater. Sometimes movies do get re-released in theaters, and I just wondered if any of you knew if it might, could, or will in the future be re-released. It is an amazing film!

I’m glad to see that other people love that movie too! The segment with the fairy and the elk moves me to tears every time I see it. It looks like it was inspired by the Mt. St Helens eruption that was so devastating. It would be so incredible to see at an IMAX theater!

Gah, I wish it would. Highly doubt it though=/
Once… | Jul 11, 2009

No chance. More and more movies are being released as IMAX films so the theaters aren’t going to waste time with old movies when there are higher grossing IMAX movies to show (ie Star Trek, Transformers, Harry Potter).

I saw Alicia Keys on SNL. Incredible talent. Why do people have a "race" problem?
I did not notice. Read some comments on youtube and this forum about she is bi-racial? I was amazed. Who cares? What difference does it make? To those who care to respond, I am 1/2 Earthling and 1/2 Martian. You would not know it from looking at me. Be careful how you respond. I can trace your e-mail address. I love to eat small children. Tastes like what you humans call chicken.

People are ignorant for whatever reason…maybe because they have NOTHING to do with their lives. I mean, what difference is it making anyone that she is bi-racial…makes no difference in anyones lives except for hers!!!! People are sooo stupid…its not important at all…people truly aggravate the hell out of me!!!

Alicia Keys is beautiful and talented.

If you’re talking about Americans it’s because we’re still stuck on the race thing.

It’s sad….and so is the last part of your otherwise interesting question.
daljack -a girl | Jan 20, 2010

I honestly dont know, people do the same thing with mariah carey, she is biracial also and people always feel like she should choose sides, inherit her black side more or vise versa and im sure people do the same with alicia keys. Why cant we all just accept people for who they are,we all came into this world in different shapes, sizes and colors so we might as well accept it. I honestly will never get why people focus more on people’s personal lives and such other than their music. Why do u care if the person is multi-raced? why do u care if they are dating some other celeberty, first of all it isnt our business and second of all dont u think their talent and music is way more important than that media garbage? People need to let go of the whole race problem though, their are tons of bi-racial/multi-race people on this earth so people might as well get used to it.
Stranger In Michigan | Jan 20, 2010

I don’t understand it either. I hate it when I tell someone a story about a person (whatever the story is) and their FIRST response is "was he/she black or white?" What difference does it make? None. And I get that from both sides. I’ve felt this way all my life. I’ve never noticed (and I mean this) differences between people. I live in the south, I see racism a lot. (I know it’s everywhere, but I’m almost positive it’s worse here–maybe I’m wrong) Even as a small child, when I’d see discrimination, and hear racist comments, it just felt….wrong…even before I was old enough to understand why.

I’m 1/2 Martian too!! These full blooded humans are nuts.

Today at the Chicago International Film Festival
17.10.09
‘Air Doll’ ★★★ Japanese filmmaker Hirokazu Kore-eda, whose pregnant silences (”After Life”) and palpable big-city loneliness (”Nobody Knows”) are probably too rich to qualify the director as a genuine minimalist, returns to inexpressive protagonists, metropolitan limbos and questions of identity. And boy, does he. You know how you always liked “Pinocchio” but wished it had more nudity and sex toys? Here is the tale of an inflatable adult doll. One day while her owner is off waiting tables, the doll “grows a heart” and with a halting mechanical walk begins to explore the neighborhood, at first in a French maid’s outfit. Which lends the picture more of a fairy tale aura than you would expect. As played by South Korean actress Bae Du-na (”The Host”), with as little guile as you would expect from someone playing a woman with a belly-button nozzle, Nozomi (the doll) adopts a whimsical Forrest Gump-ish innocence, and “Air Doll” stays as airtight as its heroine. (That said, at more than two hours long, it’s dragged a half-hour past its breaking point.)
